Basic computer assistance on how to use some basic functions of the computer or device.

How can I integrate this into my class?

It is good to know some basic troubleshooting when using technology in the classroom to assist students should a minor issue arise.

Smartboards:

What is this?

The SMARTBoard is the touch based screen in the classroom. Usually this is connected to a “hub” computer (different operating machine from your Teacher computer.) This can be used to project information so that all of your students can participate at once.

How can I integrate this into my class?

SMARTBoards allow the user to write on screen on “top” of the projected image. You can create interactive lessons, solve math problems, fill out worksheets as a class or view a video.

iPads:

What is this?

An iPad is an Apple tablet that has a touch screen and different apps.

How can I integrate this into my class?

Different Apps can be installed to assist your students with specific curriculum. The iPads offer the most mobility to the students unlike a classroom computer or chromebase.

What is this?

Learnpads are a teacher customizable tablet. Apps are assigned by the teacher and are the only ones accessible by the students.

How can I integrate this into my class?

It has similar apps to the iPads but apps can be assigned by the teacher.

Chromebooks:

What is this?

Chromebooks are similar to laptops without the storage staying on the machine. They run a Chrome-based operating system which allows the students to sign directly into Chrome and skip the Novell log-in.

How can I integrate this into my class?

These machines load quickly and only has the student log-in once (instead of twice.) They are mobile (similar to a laptop.)

Chromebases:

Chromebases are similar to PCs but without storage staying on the machine. They run a Chrome-based operating system which allows the students to sign directly into Chrome and skip the Novell log-in.

How can I integrate this into my class?

These machines load quickly and only has the student log-in once (instead of twice.)

PC’s:

What is this?

PC’s are your classroom computers. This includes your “teacher” computer, your “hub” (SMARTBoard computer), and/or your classroom computers.

How can I integrate this into my class?

As a teacher you will most likely be using your teacher computer and SMARTBoard daily. For the students they may need to use the classroom computers for research or as a station visiting a particular website.

Adding Technology to an Existing Lesson Plan:

What is this?

Sometimes a lesson plan is good but it may be missing “something.” Adding some technology may add a different twist on a previous lesson plan.

How can I integrate this into my class?

Students will be engaged in a different way in the classroom if you integrate new technology into a lesson. We can help you brainstorm different ways to utilize technology interaction.
